P2 SCIENCE, INC. A RENEWABLE CHEMICAL COMPANY BASED IN NEW HAVEN, CT HAS FORMED A STRATEGIC ADVISORY BOARD, COMPRISING LEADING FIGURES FROM INDUSTRY, ACADEMIA AND GOVERNMENT.

P2 Science is a venture backed company, using patent pending chemical technology to convert biomass into specialty chemicals. Initial target markets include Flavors & Fragrances, Cosmetics and Polymers. The scientific co-founders of the company, Professor Paul Anastas and Dr. Patrick Foley, worked together at the Yale Center for Green Chemistry and Green Engineering.

P2’s Strategic Advisory Board is intended to provide insight and counsel from experienced professionals with a track record in relevant technology and business as the company commercializes its technology and works toward its first production capability scheduled for 2014. The four members are Professor Paul Anastas, Dr. James Barber, Professor Eric Beckman and Mr. Stephen Hicks. Further details follow:

Professor Paul Anastas, is Director of the Yale Center for Green Chemistry and Green Engineering. Professor Anastas served as the Assistant Administrator for the US EPA and the EPA Science Advisor from 2009-2012. From 2004 -2006, Professor Anastas served as Director of the ACS Green Chemistry Institute in Washington, D.C. He was previously the Assistant Director for the Environment in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy where he worked from 1999-2004. Professor Anastas is credited with establishing the field of green chemistry during his time working for the US EPA as the Chief of the Industrial Chemistry Branch and as the

Director of the US Green Chemistry Program. Dr. Anastas has published widely on topics of science through sustainability including eleven books, such as Benign by Design, Designing Safer Polymers, Green Engineering, and his seminal work as co-author, Green Chemistry: Theory and Practice.

Dr. James Barber served as President and CEO of Metabolix, Inc. from 2000 to 2007. During this period, he led the transformation of Metabolix from a research boutique to a world-renowned, publicly traded renewable polymers company. Prior to joining Metabolix, Dr. Barber served as a Global Business Director at Albemarle and as a Director of Nippon Aluminum Alkyls, a JV between Albemarle and Mitsui. Dr. Barber’s prior experience includes time as a venture capitalist and in the formation of venture backed companies. He currently serves as a director or advisor to a number of leading renewable chemical companies. Dr. Barber received the ACS Henry F. Whalen, Jr. award for Business Development in 2003.

P2’s Calendar for 2012

Happy New Year to all our readers! We have added a calendar page to the website. This lists all the speaking engagements we have so far for the coming year and also the exhibitions and conferences in which we will be participating. Links and brief information are provided for each. Highlights for us include the 2nd ICIS World Surfactant Conference, April 25-26th in New York in which we will be presenting our technology alongside such giants in the renewable chemicals field as Solazyme, Elevance, Amyris, LS-9 and Codexis. We are genuinely honored to be in the company of such a stellar line-up of companies who are transforming the surfactant supply chain. We are also looking forward to the March 1st Green Chemicals Panel discussion hosted in Manhattan by the CM&E Group of ACS. Full details of the P2 2012 Calendar are on this new page to our site.
The first two weeks for P2 has resulted in a lot of good media exposure and has attracted considerable interest from prospective partners and customers.

Two Weeks Into the Mission (P2’s Public Exposure)

For me, the official launch of P2 was when we took our technology on the road at the SCC Annual Meeting in New York December 8th and 9th. There we put up a poster outlining our new C-glycoside technology and engaged in a couple of days worth of very interesting discussions with prospective customers and partners. Our thanks and appreciating to the SCC and the volunteer organizers of this superb event. If you are interested, you can download our poster at this link.

What has struck me about our first couple of weeks has been the level of media interest. ICIS, Chemical Week, Lube Report, HAPPI Magazine and even the Yale University Green Chemistry Newsletter have published pieces. We have added a media page to our site to keep track of this coverage.

An even more encouraging sign for us has been the level of interest from the market segments we are targeting for our technology. Before putting together the company we sat down and listed out all the potential customers and partners we could think of for the company. It is really quite gratifying to see that a number of them have pro-actively reached out to us to initiate discussions in the last couple of weeks. Proof that companies are very much interested in new technology and are on the look-out for its appearance.

As a result of the encouraging early interest in our products, we have already committed to a number of speaking engagements for 2012 and will publish these on a new Events page to be added to our site.

Let me take this opportunity to wish all readers, the compliments of the season and our best wishes for a Happy New Year.
